Alexander Langerman, MD, SM, FACS, is a practicing head and neck surgeon whose research focuses on the intersection of ethics, management, and data science in the operating room. He is a sought-after speaker and author on topics of surgical ethics, video and data recording in the operating room, operating room efficiency, and clinical care of head and neck cancer patients. 

Director of the Surgical Analytics Lab at Vanderbilt, developing novel methods of operating room data collection, enhanced transparency in operating room activities, and bolstering surgical team-patient relationships.

Recently, he founded DesignWithPatients, a program that brings Vanderbilt students and faculty and talent from greater Nashville together with patients to develop innovative solutions to surgical patient needs.

Partial Funding from the Greenwall Foundation to examine the ethics and logistics of overlapping surgery.

His faculty appointments are in Vanderbilt’s Department of Otolaryngology, Institute for Surgery and Engineering, and Center for Biomedical Ethics and Society

His Surgical practice specializes in head and neck surgical oncology and microvascular reconstruction.
